A Bot is another name for a web Crawler or spider.
The Bot (WebCrawler) is an application that crawls the content on a Websites pages. Its purpose is to understand and Index the Content to assist in response to a searchers query, and grades the Website for Ranking purposes.
The quality of a Website pages Content determines its ranking. SEO is its primary function.
